Ballerina

Project

The “Ballerina” table is designed around the contradiction between stability and lightness. Its top, made of grey Parsol glass, appears almost weightless, like a delicate shadow. Beneath it is a black-stained wooden base whose rounded lines give the table the necessary weight and balance.

The base consists of three specially shaped wooden elements. Each passes through a central opening and is mounted onto a threaded rod that holds them in precise alignment. At the top of the rod is an aluminium cross to which the glass is UV-bonded, creating a clean connection without any visible fixings.

The project’s name came before its explanation. Like a ballerina who performs an exceptionally demanding movement at a moment of perfect balance while making it appear effortless, the table seeks to create the same impression.

Sara Kresal is an interior designer based in Ljubljana. Although trained in interior design, she has focused her professional practice on individual objects, in which form, precision and detail are fundamental. She is particularly drawn to technically demanding projects, unconventional joints and structures that appear to challenge stability.
She founded Studio Kresal in 2022 and took over the management of the family company Steklarstvo Kresal the following year. Glass has been part of her life since childhood through her father, who has worked in the glass industry for more than 30 years. Her experience in the workshop introduced her to both the technical and expressive possibilities of the material, as well as the precision required to work with it.
Through her studio, she seeks to expand the possibilities of glass design and strengthen its position within contemporary product design.
