The “Campfire Tales” project explores Indian folklore, myths and oral traditions through journeys connected to the places where these stories originated. Rather than simply listing destinations, it presents narratives associated with India’s forts, forests, temples, lakes and villages. The project responds to the superficial presentation of cultural content on digital platforms and the gradual loss of oral traditions.
The platform connects each legend with its place of origin, allowing users to experience the story alongside its landscape. Travellers can join in-person campfire circles led by local storytellers, participate with other travellers or attend virtual storytelling sessions, making the content accessible beyond its original location.
A personal “Story Journal” allows users to document their experiences through voice recordings, photographs, videos, reflections and stories. These contributions form an archive connecting digital and in-person experiences while supporting the preservation of oral traditions. Although developed primarily for India, the platform can be adapted to present local folklore in other parts of the world.
