“Pri kamniti mizi”, one of the three buildings that form the Vodnikova domačija Šiška complex, has been repurposed into a hybrid cultural space combining a bookstore, a bar, and an events venue. Instead of strictly defined functions, the project is based on flexibility, allowing the space to seamlessly adapt to everyday use and a wide range of cultural programmes – from concerts and literary evenings to workshops and exhibitions.

At the heart of the project is an adaptable system of modular furniture. Rotating bookshelves, movable book modules, folding tables, and a transforming bar counter allow for various spatial configurations with minimal intervention, while preserving the interior's identity. The design also stemmed from research into ergonomics and reading culture – from historical typologies of reading furniture to contemporary reading habits, resulting in diverse spaces and positions for reading.

The selection of materials balances the technical character of the space with warmth and tactility. Metal elements in a gentle ivory colour, natural wood, Sottsass veneers, and textured surfaces create a pleasant and timeless atmosphere. Through an adaptable spatial concept and a carefully curated selection of books, “Pri kamniti mizi” establishes a contemporary model for a space dedicated to books and reading culture – a place where books, coffee, conversation, and cultural events intertwine as part of daily life.
