Workshop

The poster is one of graphic design’s fundamental playgrounds – a format through which designers have long experimented with typography, photography, illustration, composition and visual language. But at a time when digital media dominate and visual content is produced and circulated at extraordinary speed, a new question emerges: what does a poster look like today?

The workshop explores the poster “in the age of technical hyperproductivity”. Traditional print proportions will be replaced by digital formats, with a particular focus on the visual language of electronic music and club culture.

Working from a shared brief, participants will create a digital poster for an electronic dance event to be held afterwards, with the resulting visuals used in its communication and all participants credited. Over the course of the workshop, the initial static image will gradually develop into an animated poster, creating space to experiment with movement, rhythm, typography and digital composition.

The workshop approaches the poster as a living format capable of adapting to new media without losing its essential purpose – to communicate an idea clearly, powerfully and with a distinct visual voice.

I want a poster because I’m not animated

This free workshop is intended for designers and a general audience interested in graphic design, visual communication, electronic music and digital media. The programme consists of three three-hour sessions with independent work between meetings and is led by Ivorin Vrkaš.

Working from a shared brief, participants will design a digital poster for an electronic dance event to be held afterwards. Visuals developed during the workshop will be used in the event’s communication, with all authors credited. Throughout the process, an initial static poster will develop into an animated format through experimentation with typography, movement, rhythm, composition and digital formats.

The workshop asks how the poster functions at a time when digital media dominate and visual content is produced at extraordinary speed. It approaches the poster as a flexible, living medium positioned between still image, animation and screen.
