The visual identity for “SviMi”, a cultural and educational project developed for the Zagreb City Libraries, was created to support the integration of migrants into the city’s cultural life and to raise public awareness through encounters, dialogue and shared learning.
The logo symbolically represents the process of integration into society. It is based on geometric typography whose robust forms convey the stability and openness of the library as a public institution. Arrows are integrated into the letterforms, representing people arriving from different parts of the world. Their different directions of entry into the letters serve as a visual metaphor for diverse life paths and countries of origin, while their incorporation into the typographic structure symbolises becoming part of the community rather than remaining outside it.
The colour palette is derived from the flags of the countries from which most of the migrants involved in the project come, including Nepal, Syria, the Philippines, India, Iraq, Iran, Peru, Argentina, Uzbekistan and Ukraine. In this way, colour becomes an additional carrier of meaning and highlights the cultural diversity brought together by the project.
