The “Cycling Avba” project explores how traditional cultural heritage can be reimagined within contemporary social and technological contexts. Inspired by the Slovenian avba, a traditional women's headdress from the historical region of Carniola, the project transforms a symbol of the past into a functional object designed for modern urban life.

The work combines ethnographic research, digital design, and advanced 3D manufacturing technologies. Traditional decorative motifs and historical tattoo patterns associated with protection and identity are reinterpreted through digital modeling, 3D scanning, shaping, visualization, and additive manufacturing.

The final outcome is a wearable cycling accessory integrated with a bycicle helmet. The object includes LED lighting to enhance visibility and safety in public spaces while maintaining a strong visual connection to traditional ornamentation. Through its form and functionality, the project addresses contemporary themes of visibility, personal safety, identity, and the relationship between heritage and technology. The “Cycling Avba” demonstrates how traditional craftsmanship, contemporary design, and new technology interconnect.
