Defect 01: Inner State

Project

The project “Defect 01: Inner State” presents a black heart-shaped stool designed as a multifunctional object with a soft, tactile surface that invites touch and suggests intimacy. A circular white plug on the seat marks the point of opening and intervention. When the object is opened, a delicate white form resembling flakes emerges from its interior, mechanically attached with Velcro, creating a contrast between the closed black exterior and the white, pliable interior.

The work refers to a ventricular septal defect – an opening in the wall of the heart – but shifts the focus from a medical deficiency to an inner state. The black exterior appears compact and controlled, while the interior reveals softness, excess matter and a space of change. Within the context of a black-and-white world, the project questions the boundary between outer appearance and inner content: what at first seems closed and complete in fact conceals a space of flow, vulnerability and transformation.
