Fueling Return

Project

The graphic work “Fueling Return” reflects on the end of the Second World War through post-war development and the founding of new Slovenian companies. Created in the context of the 2025 anniversary, it also marks the 80th anniversary of Petrol, a company that played an important role in the modernisation of Slovenia.

Rather than focusing solely on industry, the work explores the human experience of the post-war period, referring to families returning from exile whose stories shaped the rebuilding of society. The former Jugopetrol is presented as both a symbolic and literal source of fuel, driving economic growth while connecting communities and enabling movement, return and renewal.

Silhouetted figures appear and disappear within the industrial landscape, alluding to the fragile relationship between personal and collective history. Through the interplay of blue and yellow, the author constructs a visual puzzle open to multiple interpretations. These colours evoke energy, infrastructure and dependency, pointing to the systems and resources that have become inseparable from modern life.

The work reveals the interweaving of industry, memory and experience, questioning the idea of progress and highlighting the often-overlooked connection between technological development and people. Printed on textile, it gains an additional tactile and material dimension. The fabric emphasises everyday life, presence and use, while also suggesting continuity and endurance, further reinforcing the connection between history, industry and human experience.
