SICC. Skin to Skin.

Project
The project “SICC. Skin to Skin.” was developed as part of the Creative Management in Design master’s programme at Algebra Bernays University. The brand reinterprets traditional Croatian sicanje tattoos through contemporary, gender-neutral jewellery made from recycled steel, bringing motifs worn on women’s skin for centuries into a modern context.
Sicanje tattoos were worn by Croatian Catholic women between the 15th and 19th centuries as protective symbols and expressions of religious and cultural belonging. Each piece of jewellery carries part of this story and incorporates tactile three-dimensional dots that provide a calming stimulus for the hands, recalling that symbols do not fade, just as the need for touch remains.
The project responds to the lack of a sustainable, locally rooted, mid-priced jewellery brand for an alternative audience. By revealing the stories behind its motifs, “SICC” encourages respect for cultural heritage and a sense of community, approaching tradition in an authentic, personal and non-imposing way.

Author
Leonarda Brunčić, Aleksandra Stević and Jana Marta Vedo are master’s students on the Creative Management in Design programme at Algebra Bernays University. Their work connects communication and visual identity with broader brand strategy, with a particular interest in bringing together art, education and cultural content.
Within the SICC team, Leonarda acts as project lead and creative director. She develops the project’s vision and concept, shaping the typography, forms, sketches and illustrations that form the basis of its visual language.
Jana Marta explores the role of design in shaping cultural narratives and subcultural identities. She is responsible for the visual identity and packaging, translating the concept into a system that communicates consistently across different media.
Aleksandra develops visual narratives at the intersection of design, society and technology. She is responsible for UX/UI, the website and written content, ensuring that the brand’s digital and physical experiences are equally strong.
The team also includes their former fellow student Roko Djurić, a 3D product designer who translates concepts into precise models, using his technical expertise and understanding of materials to connect the initial idea with its final execution.
