The “Margareta Meissner-Bašić and Luka Bašić Gallery” project encompasses research and the development of the exhibition’s spatial concept, spatial and product design, as well as the creation of its visual identity and promotional campaign.

The project began with research into the culture of the Podravina region, Croatian naïve art, and the lives and work of the artists. Archival material, written records and documentation provided insight into their living conditions, artistic views and creative processes. The research revealed how strongly their surroundings influenced their work, making this relationship the basis of the spatial narrative.

Developed in collaboration with the curator, the gallery is organised into three zones representing different generations and styles of Croatian naïve art. Introductory texts, biographies and artists’ quotations provide visitors with a personal context for the works.

The visual identity draws on characteristics of naïve art, including intricate detail, rhythm and symmetry, translated into geometric patterns and combined with contemporary serif typography. The same principles inform the custom-made benches, tables, cabinets and display elements, produced from solid wood in collaboration with a local carpenter.
