The “Maxi Type Specimen” project is a typographic specimen developed for the “Maxi” typeface by the Dinamo type foundry. Its concept originates from an alternative form of the letter “U”, whose shape resembles a portable CD player. This visual association became the starting point for an exploration of early-2000s digital interface aesthetics, characterised by blue tones, plastic surfaces and an optimistic visual freshness.

The visual language interprets interface elements such as buttons, folders, administrator profiles and DOS systems. The publication’s format is inspired by electronic device manuals, while its text was taken from an iMac G3 manual. Throughout the specimen, a dog- or cat-shaped glyph acts as a digital assistant, occasionally addressing the reader and offering advice on using the typeface, introducing humour and playfulness.

The project also includes a souvenir consisting of eight mechanical keyboard keycaps bearing the letters that form “maxitype”. Their blue colour and typographic character turn them into both functional and collectable objects, extending the project’s identity from the publication into the everyday workspace and transforming digital nostalgia into a tangible typographic experience.
