Festival of the European Short Story

Project
The visual identity of the “Festival of the European Short Story” is based on the letter as both the fundamental carrier of a story and a powerful graphic element. The letters represent a wave of new ideas, diverse perspectives and distinctive authorial voices converging at the festival. Their movement across the composition creates the impression of an avalanche spilling beyond the format, emphasising energy, momentum and the continuous flow of stories.
The diversity of contemporary European literature is expressed through contrasting typefaces, sizes and colours. Each letter contributes to the whole, just as each author brings a unique voice and style. The resulting visual system is both recognisable and flexible enough to adapt to different formats and festival materials.
The festival brings together authors, translators and audiences from across Europe, promoting contemporary literature and cultural exchange. The proposed identity reflects its openness, diversity and vitality through expressive typography in constant motion, transforming words into catalysts for new encounters, ideas and stories.

Author
Katja Kolarić is a master’s student of Media Design at University North. She developed her interest in design while attending the School of Graphic Design, Media and Production, where she trained as a graphic editor and designer.
Creativity serves as a means of expression throughout her work, encompassing visual art, music and movement. She has practised figure skating and dance since childhood and sees physical activity as an important counterbalance to screen-based work, helping her clear her mind and return to the creative process with renewed energy.
