The project “Layers of Women’s History” tells the story of women’s rights and experiences through the figures and movements that shaped their development. Matryoshka dolls were chosen for the strong symbolism of their form and layered structure. Each figure contains a smaller one, just as today’s freedoms contain the struggles, achievements and experiences of previous generations of women.

The project consists of ten wooden dolls, each representing a particular historical period, movement or prominent figure. Together, they form a metaphor for history in which generations build upon one another and the past remains embedded within the present.

The figures are accompanied by an accordion book that unfolds into a timeline, presenting them chronologically alongside related information. In this way, the visual sequence also becomes a narrative one, bringing together a tactile object, historical content and an educational function within a unified whole.
