Quinta Pitanga

Project

The book “Quinta Pitanga” takes its title from the original name of the Sacatar arts residency on Itaparica Island in Brazil, where the author spent two months as part of a residency programme for writers.

The collection is divided into two sections. The larger cycle consists of poems about Brazil, written during her stay in the state of Bahia, while the shorter cycle was inspired by a two-month journey through Morocco. Interweaving travel and writing, the poems record direct experiences of unfamiliar places while examining the creative process and writer’s block from a poetic perspective.

Originally published in 2013, the book was redesigned with an emphasis on simplicity and white space. The refined layout improves readability while giving each poem greater clarity, independence and presence.
